Summary: The objective of the seminar is to let participants know China's forestry(bamboo) administration and policies, the roles of NTFPs (bamboo) in ecological protection, social-economic development, cultivation, processing and utilization of NTFPs (bamboo) in China and in the world; have a good master of the basic theories and principles of NTFPs (bamboo) technologies and policies, and create a platform for a fruitful cooperation, so as to enhance their awareness and capacity of integrated development of NTFPs (bamboo) industries. This Seminar of the CBRC is sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of P. R. China and it is a contribution of Chinese Government to other developing countries for the South-South cooperation.

Summary: The workshop will launch the partnership between Nepal and the NFP Facility. Forestry stakeholders will assess the nfp process in Nepal in working groups. The workshop aims at raising awareness on the nfp and finding an agreement on the progamme of activities to be supported by the Facility.

Summary: The workshop will launch the partnership between the Facility and Yemen. About 30 participants, representing the main actors of the forestry sector , have been invited . The Facility procedures and the nfp principles will be explained. Group works will be conducted to assess the nfp process in the country. Based on the concept note and the results of the workshop, activities to be supported by the Facility and a work plan should be agreed as an output of the workshop.

Summary: Developing a toolkit for facilitation of support for SMALL FOREST ENTERPRISES. A new alliance between FAO, IIED, PROFOR and the NFP Facility aims to draw on their emerging experiences in order to develop a toolkit to spread lessons on best practice in better linking small forest enterprises (i) to each other; (ii) to emerging markets; (iii) to service providers; and (iv) to national forest programme (nfp) processes.

Summary: Lesotho’s forestry sector activities are guided by the National Forestry Policy (1997) and Forestry Act (998). Both the Policy and the Act are however outdated and can no longer adequately respond to the latest challenges in the forestry sector. Establishment of the new Ministry of Forestry and Land Reclamation has elevated the importance attached to forestry development by the Government of Lesotho. This development alone has called for a new National Forestry Policy and a corresponding Forestry Act that will facilitate the contribution of forestry to the social and economic development of the country. The Department of Forestry through the assistance provided by the NFP Facility has reviewed the policy with a view to ensuring that it reflects the current and future developmental challenges facing the forestry sector. The policy review process involved an extensive review of literature, a two-day National Stakeholders’ workshop and consultations with relevant government Ministries, private sector and NGOs with some forestry focus. The draft forest policy will now go through a national debate on the 16th of April before it is passed by government as the country’s new National Forest Policy

Summary: Sungi Development Foundation, in consultation with the Forestry wing of Ministry of Environment-Government of Pakistan, Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and National Forest Program (NFP) Facility took a number of initiatives to launch the discourse for developing a viable strategy for Public-Private Partnerships in the forest domain. Prior to this national consultation workshop, provincial consultations in the four provincial capitals, Azad Kashmir, and Swat were held to gauge the current outlook of forest experts towards Public-Private Partnership and the key avenues available for private sector involvement within the sector. The Provincial consultations helped us streamline the discourse and highlighted the main opportunities to be exploited as well as the principal bottlenecks that need to be addressed to make sustainable Public-Private Partnerships a success in Pakistan. Using feedback from the provincial consultation workshops and input from leading experts in the forest sector, the SDPI and Sungi have developed a draft Public-Private strategy, which will form the basis of discussion in the proposed national workshop. The objective of this workshop is to thoroughly deliberate upon the contents of the draft strategy in order to suggest possible improvements/changes to allow the strategy to become readily implementable in the Pakistani context. Our ultimate vision is to present a strategy to the relevant government stakeholders that can combine forest management efficiency with sustainability. The national workshop is a key step towards that end.

Summary: Le présent atelier a pour objectif d’améliorer l’information globale sur la mise en œuvre des programmes forestiers nationaux et sur les progrès des pays concernant les politiques, la législation et les aspects institutionnels relatifs aux forêts ainsi que de rendre disponible cette information mise à jour par le biais d’Internet. Dans ce but, la FAO et le Mécanisme (Facility) se proposent d’assurer la formation des points focaux pfn de différents pays francophones ayant déjà travaillé sur leur programme forestier national. Cette formation va en outre permettre à tous les participants de mieux comprendre les liens entre les cadres politiques, législatifs et institutionnels qui dirigent le secteur forestier ainsi que d’améliorer leur connaissance et information sur les nouvelles tendances relatives aux programmes forestiers nationaux.
