Economic analyses of forest policies and revenue systems and forest valuation

FAO has been at the forefront of efforts to analyze the costs and benefits of forestry projects and policies and the valuation of non-market goods and services. Besides providing training and guidelines for economic appraisals, FAO also maintains a database on forest valuation with detailed information on the values of the environmental benefits of forests.

FAO has also been actively involved in examining and improving forest revenue systems, especially in Africa and Latin America. These assessments are aimed at streamlining forest concession/charge systems to improve government revenues and correct rent-capture imbalances with the overall goal of improving forest management.
