Information services

The Facility provides information services in order to: strengthen and streamline knowledge based on national forest programme (nfp) implementation worldwide and make this knowledge available where and when it is needed; improve networking at the international level on nfp issues; provide information on how Facility support can be obtained and make the outcomes of this support available.

Electronic information

A National Forest Programme Facility Website, hosted by the FAO Forestry Department, includes information on:

  • the Facility: its mission, modus operandi and gouvernance (under the heading: About the Facility), and how to establish a partnership and apply for grants (under the heading: Country support);
  • all about nfp: designing, implementing and monitoring nfps;
  • nfp-updates: the current state of nfps in a range of countries;
  • nfp-digest: collection of key electronic documents from experts and international organizations on nfp-related topics;
  • database on funding sources provided by the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF).

CD-ROMs are also available with most of the relevant information from the Facility Website.

Communities of practice (CoP)

The Facility sponsors Communities of practice, which combine a network of professionals with similar jobs and interests working on nfps at the international level, with a process to disseminate the knowledge to those who need it. To date, two Communities have been supported through stakeholder participation and funding for sustainable forest management.

Publications

Given the low availability of computers and the Internet in many developing countries, the Facility will make information available also in print:

  • publications with information already available on the Website and the outputs of the Communities of Practice;
  • Proposals for Action resulting from IPF/IFF/UNFF processes in English, French and Spanish;
  • newsletters with information on the latest nfp-related developments.
