Country Support
The majority of Facility funds are dedicated to supporting countries in order to enable governmental and other actors to develop and manage national forest programmes (nfps) successfully. The Facility provides grants directly to the actors in partner countries through an open competitive process of calling and selecting proposals led by a national multistakeholder steering committee.
Facility support focuses on enhancing governance in the forestry sector by encouraging participation in the nfp process, i.e. in the formulation and adoption of policies, in strengthening the skills of stakeholders and in knowledge management. Catalytic funding is used to support activities such as workshops, fora and training; policy analysis and specific studies; information sharing and knowledge management initiatives.
Information Services
The Facility aims to strengthen the foundations for the effective implementation of national forest programmes through a worldwide exchange of experiences and knowledge. These services are provided through:
- an online forest information platform (www.nfp-facility.org) to facilitate the exchange of information and knowledge on nfp processes around the world;
- regional workshops, networks and communities of practice to link nfp actors and provide them with access to experiences in other countries and to the global body of forest-related knowledge.
Main beneficiaries
At the country level, the main beneficiaries are stakeholders actively participating in nfp processes. These include national and local government agencies, other forest related institutions, representatives from the private sector, NGOs and community-based organizations.
Worldwide, the main beneficiaries are nfp practitioners and international funding partners and investors with an interest in the forestry sector.
